అస్తమించే నాటకం
ప్రకృతి ఒడిలో ప్రియ కుసుమాల్లారా ఏకంకండి,
కాల గమనం ఎప్పటికీ పరుగెడు ఒంటిదోరణి బండి,
చిరునవ్వులు చిందించే ఈ పుష్పం,
రేపటి గమనంలో కాగలదు చర్మం కరిగిపోతున్న శవం.
దివ్యమైన తేజస్సుగల ఆ సూర్యుడు,
పై పైకి ఎగబాకుతున్నాడు,
అతని నేటి నడక పూర్తికావస్తోంది,
పడమరన ఈ నాటి నాటకం అస్తమించబోతుంది.
ప్రధమాంకంలో అనుభూతి చెందే వయసే ఉత్తమం,
సత్తువగల శరీరం, ఉరకలు వేసే రక్తం మీ సొంతం.
అనుభూతి అనుభవమై, అనుభవం గుణపాఠామై,
గుణపాఠం అధ్వానమైపోవును చరమాంకాపు నినాదమై.
సిగ్గు వదిలి కాలాన్ని మీ ఆయుధంగా మలచండి,
ఆ క్రమంలో మీ హృదయ వాంఛను పెళ్ళాడండి,
నేస్తాల్లారా, యవ్వనం ఒక్క సారి కోల్పోతే మీరు,
గమ్య వైకల్యంతో, దినదిన నరకమై త్రిలోక సంచారులవుతారు.
Robber Herrick వ్రాసిన To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time అనే కవిత ఆధారంగా అస్తమించే నాటకం వ్రాయబడినది. దీనికి మూలం అయిన To The Virgins, to Make Much of Time పూర్తిగా ప్రేమకి సంబంధించింది అవ్వగా, తెలుగులో యధాతదంగా అనువదించకుండా కొన్ని విప్లవ భావాలను చేర్చబడ్డాయి. Carpe diem [seize the day] అనే అంశాన్ని ప్రస్తావిస్తూ; యవ్వనంలో ఉన్నవారు అవకాశాలను సద్వినియోగం చేసుకోవాలి అనే సారంతో అస్తమించే నాటకం ఉంటుంది. అస్తమించే నాటకం యొక్క ఆంగ్ల కవితను కింద చదవగలరు:
